What We Do in Charlotte

Painting Services in Charlotte, NC

Charlotte jobs run from a single room to a whole house, plus offices and shops. These are the services we offer in the city.

Local Expertise

Serving the Charlotte Community

  • Painting under a heavy canopy

About two thirds of Charlotte's area is green space, so a lot of houses sit under mature trees. Shade slows how fast siding dries after rain and dew, and the shaded sides of a house are where mildew and soft, chalky paint tend to show up first. We wash and treat those walls before any primer goes on, because paint laid over mildew lifts with it. At the estimate we walk all four sides with you and point out where the shade is doing damage.

  • An old city that keeps adding new houses

Charlotte was incorporated in 1768, its first textile mill went up in 1881, and between 2004 and 2014 its metro area added 888,000 residents. That history leaves very different houses a few streets apart. Older trim can carry many coats from different eras and usually needs scraping, sanding and a bonding primer. A newer house more often needs nail pops patched and flat builder paint replaced with a sheen that washes. We price each one for what it actually needs.

Local Conditions

Common Painting Challenges in Charlotte, NC

Charlotte's humid subtropical climate and its mix of house ages decide most of the repair work we do before painting. These are five things we check for on Charlotte jobs.

  • Mildew on shaded siding. With so much of the city under trees, shaded walls stay damp longer after summer storms. Mildew keeps growing under fresh paint, so we pressure wash and let the surface dry before priming.
  • Peeling trim on older houses. Charlotte has grown in waves since its 1768 charter, and trim on an older house can hold coat after coat. When the bottom layers let go the whole stack peels, so we scrape to a sound edge, sand and prime before the finish.
  • Scuffed builder paint. Flat builder paint marks easily and does not scrub well. If your Charlotte house still has its original coat, we repaint in a sheen that wipes clean, which matters most in halls, kitchens and kids' rooms.
  • Failed caulk at windows and corners. Long, humid summers and cooler winters work joints open and shut. Cracked caulk lets water behind siding and trim, so we cut out what has failed and recaulk before painting.
  • Drywall cracks and old ceiling texture. Settling cracks, past patches and popcorn ceilings show through new paint. We repair cracks and holes, remove popcorn texture where you want it gone, and sand and prime so the new color reads smooth.

Not sure which of these your house has? We will walk it with you at the free estimate and tell you what we would fix first.

About the Area

All About Charlotte, NC

Charlotte is the most populous city in North Carolina, with 874,579 residents at the 2020 census, and the county seat of Mecklenburg County. Fine Finishes Custom Painting lists its address in uptown on South Tryon Street, the street that grew out of the old Great Wagon Road. Our owner, Zach, is a Charlotte native and personally oversees each job.

The city's housing came in waves: a cotton and railroad boom after the Civil War, Camp Greene during World War I, then one of the country's fastest growth runs. Old wood trim under many coats and walls that still carry their first coat call for very different prep. The prep differs, and so does the price.

Charlotte has a humid subtropical climate. It sits several miles east of the Catawba River, with Lake Norman, Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake nearby. Humidity changes how paint dries and how long it holds. On exteriors we watch the weather, give each coat time to dry and do not paint over damp wood. Inside, we keep air moving so trim enamel cures hard instead of staying tacky.

We had a great experience with Zach and his team. Their pricing was more than fair and delivered on the quality of work. They did a creative paint design in our master bedroom and came out perfect. We will be using them again for more rooms in our house.

Wow, I’m so impressed with this painting group! I’ve had negative experiences in the past with other hired painters cutting corners, upcharging & delaying projects. This experience was not like that at all. It was a 10/10 experience. The customer service is professional, prompt & personable. I am impressed by how much attention to detail was shown on the job, leaving my walls & cabinets looking pristine. I’ll definitely be using this group time and time again!

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions: Painting in Charlotte, NC

Do you paint house exteriors in Charlotte, NC?

Yes. Exterior painting is one of our core services in Charlotte, along with pressure washing and prep. We wash the siding, scrape and sand loose paint, recaulk open joints and prime bare wood before the finish coats. Shaded walls under the city's tree cover get extra attention for mildew.

How much does interior painting cost in Charlotte?

Our published price guide lists interior walls only at $2.75 to $6.00 per square foot, and walls, ceilings and trim together at $3.50 to $7.00 per square foot. A 10x12 room runs $300 to $800 in that guide. Your actual price depends on prep, ceiling height and how far the color changes, so we price your job at the free estimate.

Can you paint kitchen cabinets in my Charlotte home?

Yes. Cabinet refinishing covers painting or staining for kitchens and bathrooms. Cabinet paint has to stand up to hands, steam and cleaning, so the prep matters as much as the color: degrease, sand, prime, then apply the finish. One Google reviewer had a crew led by Mario paint their cabinets and kitchen and described the team as efficient and neat.

Do you help pick paint colors for Charlotte homes?

Yes. Color consultation is part of what we offer. A room under big trees will read darker than the same paint in a sunny room, so we look at your rooms in their own light and suggest combinations. One Google reviewer wrote that we were patient and helpful while they chose.

Do you take commercial painting jobs in Charlotte?

Yes. We paint offices and retail spaces in Charlotte and plan the work to keep disruption to your business low. Tell us your hours and which areas have to stay open, and we will plan the job around them at the estimate.

Where in Mecklenburg County do you work besides Charlotte?

Our town pages cover Huntersville, Cornelius, Matthews and Mint Hill in Mecklenburg County, plus Ballantyne inside Charlotte. Beyond the county we also work in Concord, Mooresville, Waxhaw and Fort Mill, South Carolina. If you are between those towns, call and ask.
